Oaxacan Barro Earthenware

Oaxacan Barro Negro Large Bowl

These unglazed black clay or "barro negro" pottery are shaped by hand by artisans in a collective in San Bartolo Coyotepec, a village in Oaxaca. They are quick fired using the surface firing method, which means that while they are excellent at retaining moisture in food, they are more fragile than pieces fired at a much higher temperature.

Hand wash with soap and water.
