Cheryl Cambras
This new body of work by Cheryl Cambras is inspired by ceremonial textiles and visionary women like Paraskevi and Cailleach. Often persecuted for not following conventions, they are celebrated in this series of votive circles. Within each votive, Cheryl explores the protective powers of textiles and of the symbols connected with each woman named.
Cheryl Cambras is a textile artist and teacher based in Atkinson, Nebraska. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently helping develop an Arts Center in rural Nebraska to foster new avenues of expression for under-represented artists.
